Marcelina Romero, MSSPA Communication and Advocacy Director.

Marcelina Romero is a journalist and lawyer, with a solid background in media and education. She holds a Master's in Strategic Communication and Governance from George Washington University.

With over 25 years of experience in communication and education, Marcelina has worked in radio, television, and as a correspondent for Latin America. She currently teaches at the University of the District of Columbia (UDC) and Latin American universities, sharing her expertise with the next generation of communicators and leaders.

Her connection to communication and education spans several decades, during which she has developed a passion for using communication as a tool for social change and justice. With expertise in program design and management, Marcelina has led innovative initiatives in communication and education.

As Director of Communication and Advocacy at MSSPA, she leads the communication strategy, visual identity, and the connection with membership and partner organizations, working to amplify the voices and stories of early childhood education professionals and promote social justice and equity.

Marcelina is also the founder of Radio Radar, DC's alternative non-profit radio station designed to keep the Latinx community informed and elevate Latin American culture. During the pandemic, the station played a crucial role in informing the community about local and global issues.

During her tenure, she worked with a team of 25 Latin American specialists, broadcasting live with a team dispersed across Latin America and the Caribbean, providing coverage of regional news and events.

In addition to her work at MSSPA, Marcelina serves as Director of the Women's Leadership Summit in Peru, a premier event that brings together over 2,000 women and youth leaders to foster dialogue and empowerment.

Marcelina's guiding principle is that "Communication is power, and power must be used to create positive change." This philosophy drives her daily work at MSSPA, where she strives to strengthen the organization's image and impact in the community.

Awards and Recognition:

Recipient of the E3-IND Award 2024 - Influential Women of the Year by The Washington Academy of Political Arts and Sciences®️ (WAPAS), recognizing her tireless efforts to promote democracy and empower women and youth in Peru.

Nominated for the Merit for Excellence in Teaching (AE01) award by The Washington Academy of Political Arts & Sciences® (WAPAS) in 2023.
